This is the new Controller Bar feature

Gaming sure has turned a corner for Microsoft lately, with the company finally streamlining its software and hardware solutions. And Windows 11 has directly benefited from this approach.

The latest development in this space comes in the form of the new Controller Bar feature that has been made available for the OS with the release of the Windows 11 Insider Preview build 22616 in the Beta and Dev channels.

Xbox Controller Bar

In preview, the company seeks feedback from gamers about this new addition.

It is simply designed to provide an easy, controller-friendly access to recently played games and game launchers that you have installed on your system. You will see things like three of your last played video games, as well as platform launchers like Steam and EA Origin.

Microsoft details this new feature in a separate post.

The Controller Bar opens when you pair or connect a controller to your Windows 11 PCs running this latest version of the preview.

It can also be invoked by pressing the Xbox button on your controller when you are not already in a game. When playing a game, the Xbox button will still take you directly to the Xbox Game Bar and the gaming widgets that you know and love.

The recent games section includes up to three game titles you have played on your local device.

Neat little addition to the expanding gaming arsenal on Windows 11.
