Well, that’s a relief! Microsoft recently made a couple of big moves, the first of which is finally announcing the release date of the Windows 11 operating system.
To follow that up, the company also started warning testers about upcoming changes to the Windows Insider program. Basically, Insiders rocking Windows 11 preview builds on unsupported machines will need to roll back and reinstall Windows 10.
The Release Preview channel awaits them, where they can begin testing Windows 10 version 21H2 that should be soon here as the October 2021 Update for the current OS.
So, no new builds of Windows 11 for these users.
That obviously caused quite a stir in the community, with folks left wondering what will happen to their unsupported PCs that are currently running Insider builds of the upcoming OS. Thankfully, Brandon LeBlanc is here with a clarification.
The PCs given an exception will no longer receive any new future Insider Preview builds from the Dev Channel but will still get Cumulative Updates for Windows 11 leading up to GA. As I said, there is a distinction between *new builds* here.

Joining a debate on Twitter, he made it clear that users will continue to get cumulative updates up to the general availability of the operating system. The notification is actually about the upcoming development builds from the Nickel branch.
Although Microsoft has no current plans to block the cumulative updates for unsupported Windows 11 devices, this could soon change.
The software titan is standing firm of not offering any updates to these users.
They will be on their own.
But for now, though, they can look forward to receiving cumulative updates that will continue to be beamed to their machines until the launch of Windows 11 at least, on the breezy morning of October 5.
