As promised. ASUS has started rolling out Windows 11 compatible firmware for its Z270 series motherboards that pack in support for 6th and 7th generation Intel processors.
Skylake and Kaby Lake.
The hardware giant has been busy lately in preparing for the upcoming OS, first revealing its hardware that is ready for Windows 11, and then following it up by releasing motherboard updates for the operating system.
Interestingly, while Microsoft had stated originally that only 8th generation and newer Intel processors would be compatible with its next OS, the company later confirmed that it was testing potential compatible of Windows 11 on 6th and 7th generation CPUs from the blue camp as well.
The official list from the company still does not have Skylake and Kaby Lake chips listed, but there is a chance that this will be updated in due time.
Getting back to ASUS, the company had made clear in the list above, released earlier obviously, that these processors were not on the official list of compatible chips.
And now, it has quietly released the latest BIOS update version 1501 about a week ago on some of its ROG Z270 motherboards. The firmware was still labeled as Beta Version, and was said to be still undergoing final testing before its official release.
The Z270 is, of course, the flagship Intel chipset for the socket LGA1151 that supports Skylake-S and Kaby Lake-S processors, the 6th and 7th generation CPUs, respectively.
Other boards like the MAXIMUS IX FORMULA have available the final version of the BIOS that basically enables TPM by default. Or, in this case, the Intel PTT, or Platform Trust Technology.
Things seem to be moving ahead swift.
