It’s that time, that time when patches fly left and right for Microsoft products. This time, we have the July 2022 Patch Tuesday update cycle that just took to the skies.
Downloads are available for Windows 11 to Windows 10, Windows 8.1, even the good old Windows 7.
The latter if your device is part of the company’s ESU program, of course.
But for the latest and greatest version of the OS, we have a cumulative update that focuses on security improvements. Windows 11 users are recommended to seek KB5015814, which is available for deployment right now.
According to Microsoft, this update includes one major change where it addresses an issue that redirects the PowerShell command output so that transcript logs do not contain any content. Transcript logs might contain decrypted passwords if you turn PowerShell logging on.
Additionally, the update comes with everything that was included with KB5014668, the optional cumulative update that Redmond released on June 23 in preview.
The biggest change in this one was the welcome debut of the Search Highlights feature. Here, Windows now displays additional information about anniversaries and holidays right in the search UI that are tailored to each user.
This new feature is also available on Windows 10.
Speaking of, Patch Tuesday updates are also shipping for this older OS, with Windows 10 version 20H2, 21H1, and 21H2 getting in on the action. Several previous releases of the operating system that are part of the LTSC are also getting refreshed.
Aside from the abovementioned improvements, these updates also bring quality of life improvements to the Windows servicing stack to ensure that the OS updates correctly in the future.
Microsoft suggests users to download and install these patches and updates right away.
