Microsoft posts fix for the disappearing Windows Beta channel

DIY

DIY. Nothing like a little do-it-yourself fix for an issue that pops outta nowhere. And one such problem has been plaguing Insiders lately, with folks not seeing the option to move to the Beta Channel.

This bug came to light after Windows 11 was recently rolled out to Windows Insiders in the Beta Channel. Unfortunately, some people witness this problem that prevented the option to sign up for this outer ring of the preview program.

Essentially, if you experience this bug, you will not see an option to sign up for the Beta Channel Insider builds. Instead, only one option will be provided, that of stop getting preview build altogether.

Microsoft, aware of this, has issued a workaround for this pesky little bug:

“Windows 11 is now in the Beta Channel, and some of you are wanting to move over from the Dev Channel. We’ve been getting some reports that some of you are not seeing the options to change in Settings > Windows Update > Windows Insider Program. We have a fix that should get you back on track. Please note, this fix is for devices that are not showing the Choose your Insider Settings and Windows Insider account settings.”

Making this glitch disappear is easy enough.

It all comes down to a series of commands that you will need to punch into the Command Prompt after starting that terminal with administrator rights. This is what you will need to type:

bcdedit /set flightsigning on
bcdedit /set {bootmgr} flightsigning on

Once you run both commands, just reboot your device and you should be able to switch to the Beta Channel of the Windows Insider Program just fine.
