September is here, and so is the second Tuesday of the month. And that can only mean one thing. Yes, the September 2022 Patch Tuesday updates are in town.
And with this latest release, Microsoft has refreshed most of its current operating platforms.
Windows 11 being the highlight, as the latest and greatest OS from the company received KB5017328 to tidy things up. It comes with the usual blend of fixes to go with a number of known issues and relevant workarounds.
After applying this new update, your system will hop on over to build 22000.978.
The key highlight is a fix for a problem that affects Microsoft Accounts, which has been present since last month for certain users that deployed KB5016691 on their devices. The web dialog that you use to sign in or sign out was not appearing, but this has been taken care of.
Beyond that, this particular update also addresses security issues for your Windows system.
The security update also packs in several improvements, all of which were a part of the abovementioned KB5016691 that Redmond released on August 25, 2022. If you installed earlier updates, only the new changes contained in this package will be downloaded and installed on your machine.
Microsoft also has separate release notes for the security updates released for September 2022 that you might want to give a scan.
But like always, there are a few known issues in this update that both IT admins and end users might want to be aware of before deploying the September 2022 Patch Tuesday release on their system. One of these involves XPS Viewer while the other one has to do with daylight saving time in Chile.
Microsoft has also included Windows servicing stack update 22000.975 in this latest release. It brings improvements to ensure that the OS downloads and installs updates smoothly in the future.
Updates for older versions of the operating system, including Windows 10, Window 8.1, and Windows 7 are also part of this release cycle.
You can download these and deploy them by firing up Windows Update on your PCs, while offline installation choice is also available for machines that are not connected to a network.
