The big update for the previous generation hero is here. Those of you who are unable to — or don’t want to — upgrade to Windows 11 will be interested in this new update for the older operating system.

Also known as Windows 10 version 21H2, the November 2021 Update for the OS is now rolling out.

And with it, come some big changes.

Mostly related to how Microsoft will be servicing the platform going forward. The company is now shifting to a yearly release cadence for the operating system, similar to Windows 11.

That means we will only be getting one feature release for Windows 10 from here on. The next major version of the OS is now slated for release in the second half of 2022. Redmond plans to continue to support at least one version of Windows 10 through October 14, 2025.

Home and Pro versions of the November 2021 Update will receive 18 months of servicing and support beginning today, while Enterprise and Education editions will receive 30 months of servicing.

As for what features are being lit up, not a whole lot is new in this version.

A grand total of 3 new additions have made the jump.

First, the operating system now supports WPA3 H2E standards for increased WiFi security. This new technology is not only much more efficient than its predecessor, but it also resistant to side channel attacks that are used by malicious actors to steal credentials.

Secondly, Microsoft has added a new deployment method for Windows Hello for Business that goes by as cloud trust. This flavor of Windows Hello is used by enterprises and is configured by Group Policy or mobile device management policies that makes it much more robust in terms of security.

Third feature is GPU compute support in Windows Subsystem for Linux and Azure IoT Edge for Linux on Windows deployments. This is being done to facilitate machine learning and other resource intensive workloads.

That’s pretty much it for the features that are enabled with Windows 10 version 21H2.
