Windows 11 2022 Update has launched

Windows 11 2022 Update

The big day is here! Microsoft has begun the rollout of the Windows 11 2022 Update, with this first major update for the new operating system having taken flight more than a year after its launch.

And with its arrival, the company has also done away with its half-year naming convention, which is why this release was dubbed 22H2 by some. Makes sense too, as Redmond has pretty much shifted to an annual update cadence for the platform.

No reason to signify which half of the year an update is released.

Speaking of releases, this new arrival brings a whole bunch of new features and additions, with Microsoft emphasizing its goal of offering a more simplified experience that makes you more productive.

This is why this new update brings a bucketload of new capabilities in this regard, including better touch navigation for Snap Layouts, the ability to snap multiple browser tabs in Edge, to go with Focus sessions and Do Not Disturb.

And this is exactly what Panos Panay highlighted in the post that formally announced the rollout of the Windows 11 2022 Update in 190+ countries:

“We’re excited to take this next step with Windows 11, to inspire journeys like yours. Windows 11 was designed to bring people together, to help people play and have fun, to empower productivity and inspire creativity. Serving more than a billion people, Windows is the platform for the world’s innovation. For consumers, Windows 11 will make your everyday easier. For businesses, Windows 11 is the operating system for hybrid work and the most secure version of Windows yet. For developers and creators, Windows 11 is the open platform creating even greater economic opportunity for your creations. We will continue to invest in delivering Windows experiences that enrich people’s lives as we aspire to meet your evolving needs.”

The Chief Product Officer of Windows + Devices touched upon how this new update makes the PC easier and safer to use for everyone, while also empowering people to be more productive. He also talked in detail about the new software that arrives with it and the new hardware that is powered by it.

Key improvements in the 2022 Update being faster Search, a better Start Menu experience, divers Widgets as well as accessibility improvements.

This new release is also being pitched as the ultimate place for creators and gamers, with the inclusion of Clipchamp that is bundled, alongside a new tool called Windows Studio Effects, to go with a metric ton of gaming improvements.

Similar to previous updates for Windows, the 2022 Update is available for all eligible users, albeit in a staggered manner. Meaning, although it is rolling out today, you may not get it offered immediately.

But it will arrive, for sure!
