What on God’s green earth! It is the beginning of a new month, and that is usually a joyous time when we learn the latest statistics regarding the various operating systems and web browsers.
And how they are holding up against the competition.
Well, if Edge has stalled, Window 11 is actually progressing in reverse.
At least, according to the fresh data that we received from Valve for its Steam gaming platform. The numbers show that Microsoft’s latest and greatest OS is finding difficulty getting more users, even amongst gamers.
This is a demographic that is at the forefront of new technologies, and often the first to upgrade to reap the benefits of what a new OS brings.
Anyway, October 2022 has marked the second time Windows 11 loses ground on Steam. It went down from almost 25% it had to its name down to 23.37%. This makes for a notably noticeable decline to the tune of -1.47% from the last time we checked on things.
Windows 10, on the other hand, has gained 0.42 percentage points, climbing to 68.91%.
Speaking of older versions of the operating system, Windows 7 refuses to say goodbye to the gaming market, even as it is about to face the end of extended support early next year. It holds sway over 3.59% in this part of the woods, with the value going up 1.19 point compared to last month.
But as said above, that this is not the first time we have had dips like this over at Steam. Windows 11 certainly has its job cut out in convincing this user base to make the move to upgrade their gaming rigs to the best Microsoft has to offer.
Still, things are quite stable overall.
96.5% of Steam users prefer Windows to other operating system, making for an +0.09% increase.
macOS, in comparison, has a 2.23% share, which actually went down by -0.03, while Linux saw a minor uplift of +0.05 that took its numbers to the new highs of 1.28%.
