Two of the most popular platforms on planet are set to be more tightly integrated. Microsoft looks to be going for further integration between Windows 11 and Android, with a new job listing providing hints.
Redmond has already taken several steps forward in making sure that Android users feel at home when using its hardware and software — take the native support for Android apps in Windows 11 or the partnership with Samsung as reference.
Now, though, the company aims to further consolidate its efforts in the Android sphere into a single division called “Android Microsoft Platform and Experience”.
Fancy name.
A move like this could open up possibilities for the software titan to go beyond Samsung phones, and bring this close integration between Windows 11 and Android to more devices.
To make this a reality, Microsoft posted several job listings for this new division that aims to bring apps and services like Phone Link or Your Phone, SwiftKey, Microsoft Launcher, as well as the Surface Duo experience under one umbrella.
The job listing reads:
“The Android Microsoft Platform and Experiences Team is building the future. We are a world-class platform, middleware, apps, and services organization that brings end-to-end experiences to life on a diverse range of form factors – empowering customers through powerful connections to Windows, M365, and Azure across the devices they use.”
While exact details of how the company plans to double down on its Android efforts are not available, it is reasonable to expect major improvements to its apps and services in order to enable tighter integration between Android and Windows 11.
Microsoft may no longer be a major player in the mobile market as a platform holder, but a tight knit integration is something that its platforms truly deserve.
